Let's ask our newly elected townhalls to create bike facilities in the Mont-Blanc area and let's give everyone a taste for using bicycles to get around. On Saturday 24 May, we will cycle a temporary bike lane between Les Gaillands and the centre of Chamonix. Friendly, fun but also practical and assertive rally.
Meet at 14:30 at Les Gaillands. Depart at 15:00.
On arrival in Chamonix, place du Triangle de l'Amitié (below the church):
- Free trial of electric bikes. The ones usually rented by the Tourism Office for 10 euros a day.
- Bike repair workshop, set up by the Les Houches cycle shop Sport Spirit.
- Music, by Summit Radio.
- Inspire stand and tombola...
A Vélorution'Air guide, for the development of cycling as a mode of transport in the Mont-Blanc area, will be published then.
Working groups will also be created in order to suggest appropriate cycling facilities, area by area, to present to our local townhalls.
Length of the cycle route: approximately 1.5km on flat ground. The road from Les Gaillands will be closed to traffic during the procession between 15:00 and 15:30.
Bike across the entire area covered by the PPA
Simon Métral, President of ARSMB, proposes to extend the Vélorution'Air Bike Action by cycling from Findrol, through Bonneville, Marignier, Thyez, Cluses, Magland, Sallanches, Passy, Servoz, Les Houches and finally Chamonix - or, more symbolically, by covering the entire valley floor protected by the Plan of Protection of the Atmosphere of the Arve Valley. He invites anyone interested to join him at Findrol or en route. Approximate timings: 10:00 departure from Findrol, 11:00 at Cluses, 11:45 in Sallanches (St Martin Bridge), Passy at approximately 12:30, Servoz (Salle Jean Morel) at 13:30, arriving at Les Gaillands at 14:30. Simon’s initiative be cancelled in the case of heavy rain. For more information, contact Simon at firstname.lastname@example.org or 06 26 86 56 95
Be aware that the St Gervais- Chamonix line will be closed for repairs and replacement buses will be in service. Unlike trains, buses will not carry bikes; but since the Vélorution'Air course is so short, it would be possible to complete the route by walking, on rollerblades, skateboard or scooter. Alternatively, you can also join us in Chamonix town centre for the stands and activities, at the Place du Triangle de l’Amitie.
The event will be filmed and shots sent to the "Less Car More Go" initiative, which is preparing a documentary on the use of bicycles as a mode of transport for people and cargo - worldwide.
See the trailer which will seriously make you want to ride a bike!
All participants in the rally will receive a bike sticker « je suis Vélorution’Air ».
Don't miss the birth of a new movement in the Mont-Blanc area!
