For the last 3 months, under the initiative of ARSMB, the Citizen Air Council has been underway, with groups of local people gathering the opinions of the Arve Valley’s residents and analysing their ideas for the improvement of air quality. The proposals made by the working groups on 22 March in Passy, in front of a large audience was very interesting. For once, local people were able to speak freely and calmly in front of elected officials and policy makers, who listened without interruption. A successful outcome for the ARSMB and for democracy.

Cold snap for democracy

If on 25 September, whilst the 11:00 train carrying ministers set off, security forces had let our handful of local citizens hold up their banners along the railway tracks to Montenvers, our demonstration would have ended by 11:30 and the press would have made very little mention of our action. However, in the face of the extreme reaction of the security forces, we spent the day trying to raise our banners, under the watchful eyes of the press.

Successful new Vélorution'Air rally in the Mont-Blanc area. Nearly 200 cyclists, a few walkers and even horse-riders met in Les Houches, on Saturday September 20, to take part in the second Inspire Vélorution'Air rally. Local people’s repeated requests in favour of cycling facilities are starting to be heard in the Chamonix valley.
