Petition submitted to the sub-prefect

The Inspire petition, asking for 5 priority measures to be implemented to improve air quality in the Mont-Blanc area, was handed to the sub-prefect in Bonneville on May 28. With almost 10,000 signatures, in an area made up of 60,000 residents, this petition shows how strongly people feel about air quality and their health. 2,000 people went further and added a comment to their signature. These comments, in particular, caught the attention of the sub-prefect.

Regular messages

Since the petition was launched, in September 2013, the prefect and sub-prefect were receiving near-daily email messages telling them about the ever growing number of signatures being gathered. Neither official could escape being exposed to the build-up of pressure from increasing numbers of people demanding measures to improve air quality.

Awareness about the petition was raised by the many events relentlessly organised by Inspire (flash mobs, demos, rallies, information meetings…). The information films made by Inspire about air quality were viewed over 8,000 times in total and allowed the campaign a continuous presence on social media and the internet.

Anne Lassman-Trappier, president of Environn’MontBlanc (the organisation that launched the Inspire campaign), is delighted with the number of signatures. «Many people were worrying in silence and didn’t know to whom to turn to show they wanted to see action to improve air quality. The petition and the campaign’s success show that air pollution is a real concern for a large number of people living in the Mont-Blanc area».

A huge thank you to everyone who signed the petition and left additional comments.
